Textil Art. Natural Wool. Unframed, 60"x 76" / 152cm x 193cm

Opposite Currents unfolds as an emotional landscape where dual forces move side by side in quiet dialogue. Its horizontal rhythm evokes the passage of time, memory, and inner cadence rather than a fixed narrative. Two contrasting yet interconnected fields coexist—one expansive and expressive, the other introspective and grounded—affirming that difference does not signal opposition, but equilibrium.

The work generates a sense of simultaneity: calm alongside intensity, warmth tempered by restraint. Its measured flow invites the viewer to slow down and feel rather than analyze, opening a space for reflection, resonance, and emotional projection.

Designed by American-Argentinian artist Miguel Perez Lem and expertly handwoven on traditional pedal looms in Oaxaca, México; each textile emerges through a slow, deliberate dialogue between hand, body, and material—rooted in an intimate relationship with local resources and ancestral knowledge passed down through generations. Local wool is carded and spun, then infused with natural, organic dyes that echo the tones of the surrounding landscape. At the loom, the coordinated rhythm of feet and hands guides each thread into place, building the work line by line with patience and intention.

This process is not driven by speed or uniformity, but by presence. As a brushstroke is to the painter, the loom becomes the weaver’s canvas. Every variation, every subtle shift in color and tension, is a gesture—contributing to the textile’s emotional depth and transforming fiber into a living surface that holds time, memory, and the quiet wisdom of tradition.
