Textil Art. Natural Wool and Metallic Threads. Unframed, 63"x 78" / 160cm x 198cm

Threshold evokes a moment of passage—a crossing from inner to outer, from stillness to movement, from certainty into transformation. It exists in a space suspended between what is known and what is about to unfold. The composition feels both architectural and organic, structured yet breathing, as if holding open a doorway. Symmetry anchors the work not as rigidity, but as balance in motion.

The piece carries a quiet intensity, capturing the instant before change—where vulnerability and strength coexist. Neither an ending nor a beginning, Threshold inhabits the space between: a sacred pause where transformation gathers, listens, and quietly takes shape.

Designed by American-Argentinian artist Miguel Perez Lem and expertly handwoven on traditional pedal looms in Oaxaca, México; each textile emerges through a slow, deliberate dialogue between hand, body, and material—rooted in an intimate relationship with local resources and ancestral knowledge passed down through generations. Local wool is carded and spun, then infused with natural, organic dyes that echo the tones of the surrounding landscape. At the loom, the coordinated rhythm of feet and hands guides each thread into place, building the work line by line with patience and intention.

This process is not driven by speed or uniformity, but by presence. As a brushstroke is to the painter, the loom becomes the weaver’s canvas. Every variation, every subtle shift in color and tension, is a gesture—contributing to the textile’s emotional depth and transforming fiber into a living surface that holds time, memory, and the quiet wisdom of tradition.
