Textil Art. Natural Wool. Unframed, 66"x 76" / 168cm x 193cm

Tides unfolds as a quiet meditation on movement—an emotional terrain shaped by repetition, pause, and return. The composition flows horizontally like layered, frozen water, like memories stacked within our consciousness, each one evoking forces that are constant yet never static. There is a sense of drift here, of being carried rather than led.

Subtle interruptions move through the surface as moments of awareness—markers of time within a continuous rhythm—suggesting human presence against a larger, enduring flow. Calm and tension coexist, absorbed seamlessly into the whole. Tides invites stillness and introspection, offering a space where emotion settles, resurfaces, and moves on—quietly, inevitably, and without resistance.

Designed by American-Argentinian artist Miguel Perez Lem and expertly handwoven on traditional pedal looms in Oaxaca, México; each textile emerges through a slow, deliberate dialogue between hand, body, and material—rooted in an intimate relationship with local resources and ancestral knowledge passed down through generations. Local wool is carded and spun, then infused with natural, organic dyes that echo the tones of the surrounding landscape. At the loom, the coordinated rhythm of feet and hands guides each thread into place, building the work line by line with patience and intention.

This process is not driven by speed or uniformity, but by presence. As a brushstroke is to the painter, the loom becomes the weaver’s canvas. Every variation, every subtle shift in color and tension, is a gesture—contributing to the textile’s emotional depth and transforming fiber into a living surface that holds time, memory, and the quiet wisdom of tradition.
