Textil Art. Natural Wool and Metallic Threads. Unframed, Diameter 38" / 97cm
Turning Point captures the emotional charge of decision—the instant when direction shifts and movement becomes inevitable. Its circular form suggests continuity, while intersecting passages interrupt the flow, marking moments of choice, tension, and realignment.
The piece balances uncertainty with clarity, holding both conflict and resolve within the same space. Rather than depicting an outcome, Turning Point inhabits the act of becoming—a quiet yet decisive moment where change is acknowledged, embraced, and set in motion.
Designed by American-Argentinian artist Miguel Perez Lem and expertly handwoven on traditional pedal looms in Oaxaca, México; each textile emerges through a slow, deliberate dialogue between hand, body, and material—rooted in an intimate relationship with local resources and ancestral knowledge passed down through generations. Local wool is carded and spun, then infused with natural, organic dyes that echo the tones of the surrounding landscape. At the loom, the coordinated rhythm of feet and hands guides each thread into place, building the work line by line with patience and intention.
This process is not driven by speed or uniformity, but by presence. As a brushstroke is to the painter, the loom becomes the weaver’s canvas. Every variation, every subtle shift in color and tension, is a gesture—contributing to the textile’s emotional depth and transforming fiber into a living surface that holds time, memory, and the quiet wisdom of tradition.
